About Jennifer Koretsky

Senior Certified AD/HD Coach

From the time I was very young, people described me as a confident “go getter.” And while this certainly seemed true from the outside, on the inside I felt like I was barely holding everything together. Sure, I got good grades in school, landed great jobs and made a nice living. But no one knew how much I struggled on the inside.

I was constantly stressed out, and I was incredibly critical of myself. I was never happy with what I accomplished. I always thought I could be doing more, and doing it better. Getting to work on time seemed like the greatest struggle of my life! In fact, getting anywhere on time was difficult. And sometimes I just couldn’t stop myself from day dreaming during really important meetings and conversations.

When I was diagnosed with Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder at 25, my life suddenly made sense. I now had an explanation for why certain things were difficult for me, and why I felt so different from everyone else.

I embraced this diagnosis, and went to work on myself.  I read every book I could find. I got therapy, coaching, and medication. And the more I learned about ADD, the more fascinated I became by the fact that there are some incredibly successful ADDers in the world! I wondered, what makes this group of people so much more successful than others? I decided to find out.

What I found was that successful ADDers had developed a set of skills and tools that they relied on to manage their ADD. I began to develop these skills for myself. And when I one day looked in the mirror and found that I was managing my challenges and actually using my ADD to help me achieve what was really important to me, I knew that I could help others do the same.

I quit my job in corporate America and began coaching full-time in 2003. It’s the best decision I ever made.

If my credentials are important to you, then here they are.  I am a Senior Certified AD/HD Coach and the author of Odd One Out: The Maverick's Guide to Adult ADD.

I have a Bachelor's Degree in English from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. I minored in Philosophy. I also graduated from The ADD Coach Academy, and the Institute for the ADvancement of AD/HD Coaching has certified me as Senior AD/HD Coach.

I frequently volunteer for ADDA (the Adult Attention Deficit Disorder Association). I currently serve on the Annual Conference Committee. I previously served as Managing Editor of ADDA's quarterly newsletter, FOCUS Magazine, and as the Chairperson for the Communications Committee.  I was honored to receive the “2006 Volunteer of the Year Award ” for my work with ADDA.

What I think is more important, however, if the fact that I have ADD, I’ve learned to manage it, and I’m living my dreams. If you were to ask me, I’d tell you that this is what makes me a great coach, not my credentials.

About Sharon Howell

Associate Coach

When I was in the first grade, I was put into the “slow reading group.” Because my grades were not good, my parents kept telling me to “try harder.” I didn't know what that meant. I was trying as hard as I knew how to. How could I try harder? I knew my family thought that I was just lazy.

As an adult, I never understood why other people were able to get so much more done in a day than I could. I was always loosing grocery lists and other paper work, I created stacks of magazines and mail that I never knew how to eliminate, and I could never get out of the house on time, because something unexpected would always happen to slow me down.

All of these problems with daily living made me feel stupid, incompetent, and constantly damaged my self-esteem. I never gave myself credit for the things I did do well because they always seemed small compared to what others did.

My diagnosis of ADD was a great relief. It provided a reason for the confusion that plagued my daily life. But it was coaching that provided the answers for dealing with my individual challenges. Through coaching I learned to slow down, accept myself, develop coping skills, advocate for myself and learn to create my own standards for living my life (instead of other peoples standards).

I chose to become an ADD Coach and help others in the same situation improve the quality of their lives. I was trained through the ADD Coach Academy, I also have a bachelor's degree in Mental Health Psychology from Southern CT State University.

I am very excited about being a member of the AMG coaching team!

A little something extra about Jen…

I’m a rock chick. I always have and always will love rock music. I remember standing on my bed at 8 years old, holding a hair-brush for a microphone and watching myself in the mirror as I sung my heart out and pretended I was a rock star.

Now, at 32, I’m honing my skills and living that dream. My values and priorities have changed and I no longer want to be on MTV, but singing is a big part of my life. It wasn't very long ago that I deemed this dream nothing more than a fantasy.

I love to travel.  When my children were younger we had the good fortune to live overseas for 4 years and took advantage of every opportunity to travel in Europe and Asia.  It was a wonderful experience.  We still travel as much as possible, but mostly in the US.

Until I was 18, I had every intention of becoming a Broadway actress.  I can still tap dance like nobody’s business, and I can sing through every score Stephen Sondheim ever wrote!
